I'm Gold on Delta and I am 77% on upgrades this year, so it depends on a lot of factors, like routes, days of travel, time of day, etc. I've also not had trouble with redeeming miles, either. Again, it depends on when and where. It's all relative.

Personally I am very pleased with Delta. For the same fares as US, I get a much better in-flight product and customer service. The Sky Clubs are very nice. And Delta also serves my tiny TRI with 12 flights per day compared with six offered by US.
I'm also Gold with Delta and have gotten upgraded 95%.
