It generally works! Some time ago I had a discussion concerning another matter with a Maître de Cabin and amongst other things he told me that they generally get praise and critics by passengers. Either the mail is forwarded or a letter gets scanned and then emailed.
Anyway it's a great idea to praise or honestly critizise a member of the crew. In the end they are just human and can (and will) make mistakes. And they can only learn if they did something wrong.
Well, I am looking forward to my next flight with Swiss, as I really like flying them, though my premiere on langhaul is still to come.
