I agree, although my choice is always the next to the last row. The seats recline, it's close to the lav (and you can stand in line at that lav if you have to, whereas at the one in the front, you can't do that.) Plus, it's far enough behind the wing so you can get a good look at what you're flying over. Plus, if you're at the F window seat, you can often watch your luggage being loaded and unloaded. A 5-year old might think that was cool.

I've been on many nearly-full flights and sat in that row and had a middle seat open and sometimes the whole 3-seat section.

One thing I have noticed, though, is that on flights with a lot of deadheading employees, they tend to sit in the back.
