Hi, it’s Beth from American Express Customer Care. We do offer Travel Medical Protection which provides coverage for medical expenses and assistance needs as a result of sickness, accidental injury, death, or dental emergencies while on a Covered Trip (a Covered Trip is defined as more than 150 miles from your permanent residence for up to the first 45 days). There are fees associated with this coverage. Our Travel Medical Protection Department can be reached at 1-800-297-2900, Monday - Friday 8 a.m. - 8 p.m. Eastern Time (EST).

Global Assist, on the other hand, is a 24-hour service that provides pre-trip planning assistance as well as emergency assistance to Cardmembers when traveling more than 100 miles away from home. Many coordination and assistance services are free benefits with the Card; however, you would be responsible for the costs charged by third-party service providers. Global Assist can be reached at 1-800-333-2639, 24 hours a day / 7 days a week.
