The Elite Rewards really suffers the most here. Why not add levels at 125, 175, 225, 300, 400, 500k etc. with increasingly valuable gift choices?

Double exactly! I bought tickets to LHR one week before DEQM kicked in back in March--sorry, no retroactive credit.

Hey, since AA is so starved for cash, how about prospective DEQM for the flights I've already got booked in 2010? An incentive for folks to book early and pony up cash in 2009, and if you cancel/change/lower your fare later you don't get 2x miles.

The sky's the limit when it comes to some of the goofball ideas that have undoubtedly floated around AA HQ regarding ways to increase/stimulate revenue on a short term basis, at least they didn't follow Delta's lead into a 4th tier! (Yet).

Problem is, these are all short-term incentives. Long-term vision would mean a substantial overhaul of benefits and requirements, and I gather that focus groups have told them that we like the status quo, but would also like more.
