Sorry for the confusion, that's because I was talking about two different situations: 1) Earning CP if you don't currently have one; vs. 2) Renewing a CP. Mike was earning his first CP (not a renewal), so it is good until the last day of the month following when it was earned in the following year. Renewals on the other hand are good for exactly 13 months, from the first day of the month it is valid until the last day of the same month the following year. I only mentioned this to point out that they are always good for at least the 13 month period Mike was mentioning (his was a day or two longer than exactly 13 months it appears). If it was earned on August 2, then it would be good for almost 14 months.

When you renew a CP, the rules change and it extends 12 months regardless of when the 100th credit posts. But you can't start collecting for the third year of CP until the second CP is in effect.
Nope, 13 months, but admittedly this is something I did not even realize when I first had a CP, as can be seen in
this thread from 2007 I started.
