I'm not a big fan of TheBus. While it's reliable and has a good network, there's not that much frequency for the Circle Island route and it doesn't stop everywhere you'll want to go. My suggestion would be to rent a car (doing the daily rental as pointed out above by nishimark) at least for a portion of your trip.
