Sadly that appears to be the other side to a situation like this. The OP is in the right for pushing for what should be provided as part of the upgrade. When I was a Gold guest, I was lucky enough to be upgraded on a number of occasions to a room that should have come with Club / Lounge access, but didn't. Out of ignorance at the time I didn't question this, but I was happy enough for the upgrade alone. (Often these were better rooms, rather than a standard room with benefits)

Now that this situation has been pushed to a higher level, it should mean that hotel associates should have a clearer understanding of SPG policy when they upgrade someone to a room with additional benefits. Sadly, as William has stated, I suspect a number of properties starting with this one, won't be willing to upgrade Gold members in particular to these types of rooms going forward.
