Perhaps the BA staff who are suggesting that the OP buy a flexible ticket, sticking true to their policy of hostility with BA pax, would themselves pay to the OP the difference in fares and then there would be no complaints on any side. It is logical that if they cannot do this, to keep their thoughts to themselves and not waste bandwidth.
