Based on advice from this forum, I booked the St. Regis in Kauai (never been) and Moana Surfrider in Waikiki (was there last year).

We currently booked the best rate $360 per night at St Regis which seems like a good price, though on the phone they said there is a stay 1 night get 50% of the next deal which would effectivel lower our rate to $280 though it's prepaid (also a 3 night get 1 free which equates to the same).

I'm a gold *wood member. I would love an ocean view upgrade so is this a bad idea? To book an ocean view it's like $500 or $600 a night so I figure go and see if they give us an upgrade and if we really want one pay then and there.

Also, in MS, we are using points. Last year we did 8 nights, 5 of which were points (5 nights for 48000) and 3 nights we booked a partial ocean and they upgraded the whole stay to Historic room FULL ocean view!

This time MS is all points (5 nights for 48000) and you can't book ocean so I wonder if we can get a similar upgrade.
