KA launching service to Guangzhou?!
I just got an email from CX
"Dragonair to launch a new twice-daily service to Guangzhou
From 14 September 2009, Dragonair will offer a twice-daily service between Hong Kong and Guangzhou! Enjoy more connections between the largest city in the Pearl River Delta region and Hong Kong – and onwards to the rest of the world."
My first thought is, what on earth are they thinking? That can't exactly be an efficient use of aircraft. I know China Southern has one flight a day, but I always assumed it was to reposition aircraft. Maybe it will be profitable and the joke will be on me. But my second thought was maybe with the increased stake re: the CA-CX tie-up, maybe there eventually could be KA domestic routes ex-CAN or other places? Like still have HKG be the origination place, but do something like HKG-CAN-CTU or some other final destination to start gaining traction w/ domestic flights?
