Question Confused by General Guidelines for Use award flights

I am currently looking at using miles for an award flight for the first time. I currently can see availability for my outbound flight but my inbound flight date is not yet on sale.

I am confused by the "General Guidelines for Use " on the BMI website. It states:

"1. The outbound and return portion of your journey must be booked at the same time. When making your booking precise travel destinations must be selected."

and then later states

" 8. One way journeys are permitted and will be charged at half the number of miles."

These two guidelines above seem to contradict each other or am I reading them incorrectly!!

My question is can I book my outward flight now and book the inbound flight when it comes out in a couple of weeks time ( the inbound flight will depart from a different airport but within the same zone though) ?
