I dont think you are really allowed to do this, because some people buy a ticket to a destination with a stop because its cheaper. For example if you wanted to buy a ticket from LHR-EWR but its cheaper to buy LHR-EWR-PHL they may make you send your bags to PHL because thats what your ticket says.
