San Antonio Airport Hilton mini report 12/10/03

Before leaving checked the rate often. It fell twice and I re-booked to $89.00. Arrived early and not much available. Given room on 12th floor which is part of Executive Floors along with 14th. No 13th floor. Lounge is on 14th. First assigned room was near elavator and caught all the noise from the interstate. This is a problem. Got another room on 8th floor. This room also caught the noise but a little quieter. You will probably not get a room on the backside which seems to be very quiet as airlines crews seem to get these.

The Lounge is a good size open style. When you get off the elevator you are there. In the evening they had a couple cold items, one hot item and free soft drinks/water. The liquor they charge for. There is a computer in the Lounge you can access the internet. It is slow. Like real slow.

The rooms are standard old airport Hilton. The lobby has been redone so you would assume possibly the rooms would be ok. They are just so so. The bathroom was a cleaning mess with other peoples hair, black grime in the corners on the sealing, chipped tile on the bathroom floor. No place for a extended stay.

The Hotel runs a shuttle back and forth to SAT 24/7. It leaves every 20 minutes on the hour. The shuttle to North Star mall leaves every two hours starting at 10 AM. Drop off and pick up at Luby's. That is a buffet for us non Texans. Pass. We were surprised by the mall and actually found stuff to buy. It is huge. Texas huge. We very much enjoyed within the Mall Luciano's a Italian restaurant which we later learned also gave idine points. Check the magazines in your room for a discount card/offers for North Star mall. We got 10% off our meal. The restaurant is very good. The pizza was perfect!

One last thing to make you feel stupid. The Hotel had a big sign after you checked in selling "Holiday" stay certificates for $59 per night. I almost said something. FYI
