FWIW there is NF space on the flight before (UA 483) and after yours (UA 533, with the “old” 881 times so a tight connection at ORD). Maybe you can change your ticket now without a fee? If your upgrades do not clear prior to day of departure then I’d suggest getting to the airport and try to stand-by for the earlier flight as that might spring the ORD-NRT upgrade sooner.
With UA let me change the flights to include the earlier connection? What would they charge for doing this? The "web-site" says that I can't talk to UA about a change, that I will have to go back to my travel agent to initiate a change.
If I stick with my original #881 BOS-NRT flight, and the upgrade does not clear by the time we leave boston, are we simply not-getting the upgrade on the ORD-NRT flight at that point, or are we still waitlisted for the ORD-NRT upgrade and have a fair chance at any business seats left? I'm concerned that if we don't clear all the way, we will NOT be given the option to re-trying in ORD due to the direct flight issue...
