When I saw Columbia Sussex in the article, i cringed. They have got to be one of the WORST franchisee's within the Marriott flags. This is not the first time they have done something heinous. I would love Corporate to deny any future properties to these people.
I was about to say the same thing....too bad it seems they will get off cheap. Granted...they ARE cheap...take a look at any of the CS properties. I think there is exactly ONE that is NOT a dump...but don't quote me.
They own the PHL Ren---WAS a great place, still has a COUPLE good points (like Chef Otis' breakfast specials on the buffet..) but it is NOT maintained well and their housekeeping (like public areas, windows-great views of the a/p IF they are clean, etc) is in need of improvement. I have spoken to several associates and managers and they concur that the owners are cheap (not in so many words, but you can tell.)
I wrote a letter to Mr Marriott-snail mail, as we were humiliated by the GM (among other things-and I tried the other routes-PP desk, guest loyalty blah blah)....never got a response....wound up going back and it was a LITTLE better but we won't return again.
