It could be that your friend didn't get the rates because the hotel had already changed the rates. It could have been that 25 others (non-posters, lurkers, locals going for the promo) in that first hour after posting, got the same rate and all submitted their claim and the hotel was immediately notified (50 bucks off a stay in a destiniation town like vegas - if I had 3 nights there, I'd book 2 separate stays and do the middle night somewhere else - I'd rather blow my money on gambling.) The promo is new - when I submitted my claims, I was told that they were well behind their 24 hour claim window because of the number of claims and also that the managers that were responsible for verifying the claims were working from home because the verification is done out of the corporate office which is only open M-F).

I understand what you were saying and in all honesty, I agree with it - spread the joy, spread the wealth, but sometimes things are better left unspread.

also to add that if you noticed the links I provided above, I started one of them - the Amtrak Discount Thread - all I'm saying is that tools should be made available, which they are, but specifics are not always necessary - how many times have there been really amazing fares on Mileage Run and within hours they are gone?
