There's no reason not to switch from the old to new - the monthly cost is identical but the country list increases by a factor of ten and transcribed voicemail is included.

I was able to change online the day after it was announced. Works perfectly for me when I need to contact my teammates in India. A half dozen countries on the list also include calls to mobile phones and India's on that list.
