I suppose so. Once upgraded though (either at check-in ir before), you cannot go back an look at where you would be on the gate lottery and try a switcheroo. With the new automated lists for upgrading everyone, I would not want to risk it. The old NAMUs (and FT991s) did not have all the people with status queued up and chomping at the bit for the upgrades.
