I have been using this "hack" for the last 6 months without problems at all. When I order a certificate from the Japan HH desk, they see that I have booked the room online and they just add the Cert Confirm number to my booking. There certainly is never any backdoor stuff going on here.

Going by this, HH certainly knows about this and my guess they are happy to oblige for a while.
