Knowing that you don't fly much, I would recommend against an airline credit card. While you can redeem the miles earned on things other than air travel, such as magazines, the exchange rate is lousy.
If I were you, I'd probably go for an American Express Preferred Rewards Gold Card that provides Membership Rewards. The points can be redeemed for variety of things, including hotels, airplane tickets, gift cards and many other things. This may be more beneficial as you can still take advantage of the points as there is flexibility for what you can redeem the points. Whereas you're kind of stuck with an airline miles credit card. Since you don't keep a balance, there is no preset spending limit on the AmEx.
Downside to the card:
-It is an American Express and there are some places that do not accept AmEx (rarely a problem in the U.S. but may be an issue elsewhere).
-Annual fee is waived for the first year but $125 after.
