This is truly a "soft sided" bag with NO frame to it. A duffel-bag type bag would be best to describe it. It can be squished as small as the footprint of the items inside - it has no frame to keep it from going smaller. If nothing is packed into it, it can be squished to about 1 inch high...So if 6 inches high will fit through the overhead bin opening, it'll go in. If the bin isn't 12 inches wide inside, the sides can be squished a bit to fit that too..

So would a bag with no frame (about 6 inches high, 12 inches wide) and filled with jello fit?
