On a longhaul flight you'll probably need such 'luxuries' as food and water as well as probably wanting to check in some baggage. All this would add to the cost with Ryanair if they imposed the same fees on any future long haul operation (whatever happened to that?).

According to the BA value calculator it'd cost £260 to take a 23kg bag on Ryanair, therefore like for like BA is better value
I thought I'd made it clear that I was referring to short-haul flying. I wouldn't put up with BA short-haul comfort on long-haul either (or World Traveller Plus, for that matter).

If Ryanair started long haul flying, do you really think it would be markedly different from World Traveller in terms of comfort?

I can only comment on my own experience and I never take checked baggage, even when flying long haul, so for me the BA value calculator point is irrelevant.

On the routes which I use frequently which have given me a choice between BA and Ryanair (London-Madrid and London-Alicante), and for the dates I've been considering, BA has always been more expensive, generally considerably more so. At an extreme, for a recent booking I found that BA was over fifty times more expensive!
