I've accumulated over 450K miles in Northwest and use Northwest for annual Asia cycling trips. I really don't want this Flex perks card to accumulate miles for US domestic flights and you cannot take the miles you accumulate in this Flex program and tell them to transfer all the miles to Northwest. I've looked at the new Delta AMEX card and used to have AMEX...don't like that etiher as AMEX just isn't used that widely in 3rd world countries. I'm surprised that Northwest hasn't come out with it's own Visa card. I saw that US Bank had been sued by NW in April ,2009 over the program. But from looks of it I'm screwed as I have to keep this damn card.
hmmm.. I used to love my NWA WP Visa Signature, but after getting the Flex Perks, I really don't even miss any of the previous airline cards I've ever had. The FlexPerks card allows 20,000 miles for domestic travel (up to a certain amount) compared with 19,000 (ONCE A YEAR ONLY).. or 25K with NWA..
If I save 40K I can go to Europe with Flex perks.. while that would be 60K minimum using NWA WP miles..
As far as the annual fee, the Flex Perks is lower by 10 bucks or so (not too sure about the exact difference).. but if I am not mistaken you can also qualify for a fee reimbursement by spending a certain amount annually..
You also get double points on cellphone bill purchases, travel ticket purchases and groceries.. while with the WP Visa you only get double miles on purchases made directly from the NWA website, and that's it..
Lastly.. if I used 40,000 Flex Perks points to go to Germany for instance, I would still earn miles.. so basically I gain 8,000 miles (MSP to BER or FRA) on my WorldPerks, SkyMiles, AAdvantage etc accounts.. because you're not stuck with a specific airline
I felt the same way as you when I first got this card.. I couldn't wait to cancel it, but so far it seems like one of the best out there, in my opinion.
Basically I don't see one benefit the WP Visa has/had over the FlexPerks.. other than the EQM promo which was a six month, one time deal.
