While I agree with you for selfish reasons, the partnership AS and NW had before allowed elites to reserve exit rows on each others aircraft in a reciprocal manner. This is also true of SkyTeam partner elites on DL aircraft.
I would also like to be able to sit in an exit row on DL aircraft when I eventually have no more status with them. Especially useful on long-haul flights.
