My mistake can make you feel better. I recently booked Johannesburg to London via Paris.
About an hour after making the booking I re-read the confirmation, and realised it was:
JNB-CDG // ORY-LCY
I had to get a schengen visa to cover the 3 hr layover and journey between CDG and ORY... (they would not give me a multiple entry!)
With hindsight, I should have wondered why it was offering me to fly into LCY. serves me right for booking AF though...

Slightly OT: Do US airlines (particularly AA) still allow change of airport free of charge if travel to/from NYC (JFK, LGA, EWR, HPN) on an discounted domestic F ticket?
