To answer your question (bargain flight of a lifetime?), I think not!

I can recall flying Ryanair from London to Dublin and back for nothing and on another occasion for just 2 pence and I have a forthcoming trip to Madrid (again from London) which cost £1 each way. On a per mile basis the latter would mean a fare to Australia around £15 oneway (back of envelope calculation).

And, please, no comments about how bad Ryanair is! Even the Executive Club Miles will not tempt me back to BA for my short-haul flying.
