CO flies from EWR to LGW if you need an alternative. But if you have long enough, LHR-LGW shouldn't be too bad assuming you don't have too much luggage.

Why did you book this ticket this way to begin with? With two tickets, you got hit with APD (Air Passenger Duty, a hefty UK tax) twice.
