My understanding (TSOs, please correct me) is that, eventually, having a redress number will help you be able to get a boarding pass without manual intervention. I think(?) that as part of SecureFlight, you'll be able to supply your redress number along with your identifying information when you purchase your ticket; this would theoretically allow the system to recognize you as not-the-terrorist-with-the-same-name and to then print your boarding pass without further incident.

Of course, SecureFlight is being rolled out in stages, so who knows when you'll actually be able to do this.
