My wife and I are currently staying at this property having booked a week on a pre-paid non-refundable deal.
OK I was pleased that SPG matched my Marriott Rewards Platinum status and that resulted in an upgrade to a Nirvana Suite and associated benefits. However the F&B manager at this hotel needs a kick up the proverbial
We arrived yesterday and had the eveing Indian buffet, which was OK, but no tandoori meats on offer

. I would have expected some tikkas at least -to use a tandoor for just cooking nans is a waste (even though the nans were nice ^).
Tonight we went to the Nirvana guests only, fusion resturant, La Faya. We decided to have our usual pre-dinners gin and tonics only to be told they had run out of Gordon's gin

. We could have had Bombay Saphire for an extra 50 rupees (about 1 GBP) but we said we would only have the Saphire if they did it for the same price as Gordon's as it was there fault they had run out of our preferred tipple. They did offer Gilbey's (yuk) and some local gin but would not move on the price of the saphire so we decided to give it a miss.
Looking at the menu which has to be described as limited at best, neither me or my wife saw a starter that we liked so we ordered main courses only.
We also ordered a bottle of South African Chardonnay and specified, as always that we wanted to to be
cold. When the waiter presented the bottle I tried to touch it to check the temperature, but he whisked it away saying he would put it on ice.
After several almosty pointless discussions about the fact a "five star" resort should be able to keep itself stocked with the basics of life (Gordon's Gin) and downing a glass of make good fizzy wine we asked for the chardonnay to be servered. It was not chilled and although they claimed it had been kept in a fridge the "manager" on duty could not explain why it was not cold - OK the bottom third of the bottle that had been on ice was getting there, but.
The hotel is OK, but the food selection and associated service is poor.
I await to hear what the update will be tomorrow, but I doubt if I will hear that until after I get back from Grand Baie with a bottle of Gordon's some tonics and a lemon
