Thumbs up W Singapore - Quayside Isle - Sentosa Cove (PRE-OPENING DISCUSSION)

It seems that the W Singapore which made its way to the Starwood Hotels website a couple of years ago only to promptly disappear is back on track.
Staying at the St Regis Singapore, I browsed through one of the coffee-table magazines provided and to my surprise, two Starwood sources are now talking about the W Singapore. Ok ok, you must be thinking, isn’t this a magazine dating back from 2004?

Nope, it is the brand new and current issue of “Designare – The arbiters of designer living” August 2009 vol 3.

So what did they say?

Interview with W Hong Kong Marketing Director, Matthew Jung

“If the W Hong Kong is anything to go by, then Singapore is in for a treat when the W Singapore opens at the Quayside Isle on Sentosa Cove in the later part of 2010”

“.../, with Singapore having its fair share of illustrious, albeit traditional hotels, the W Singapore will provide a unique experience to both guests, socialites and the party crowd, who are ever hungry for somewhere to go. All we can do now is wait and see how the W hotel will exercise their demands for “Whatever, whenever” when they hit our shores next year.

Interview with Miguel Ko, CEO Starwood Hotels Asia-Pacific

“.... However for the moment, much of the focus is on the integrated resort in Sentosa, where a W Hotel property could open. Widely acclaimed as a hip and happening destination to be seen at, the prospect of such a hotel on local shores is fitting Singapore society elites with much excitement. So far, industry insiders have been tight lipped and Ko would only teasingly add “We are in active negotiation with CDL City Development Land, and will likely conclude soon.

Conclusion

It seems that we have now renewed hope of seeing a W in Singapore with 2 senior execs from Starwood discussing it. I do not believe that such interviews would have been made had the contract not been firmed up... especially considering that this is the second wave of announcement related to a W in Singapore (the first having died of natural causes with mention removed from the Starwood website).

Looking forward to a new W although it is going to be a trek to cover all the openings next year in SEA... Koh Samui, Bali, Singapore and a St Regis in Bangkok. Looks like next year is going to be another SPG year.
