Too long indeed, plus unfair they wouldn't deliver. I certainly wouldn't settle for miles. Travel vouchers or cash against bills. Was ABV home or the destination? Bills for purchases more easily honoured if the latter, tricky if the former but again, I think a commercial gesture of some magnitude is in order. I'd say at least $150 / €120 / £100, hopefully more, in travel vouchers but that's only my guess.
