I think the EWR A-C shuffle is one of the very few inline connections in the country that requires a bus. It might make sense for CO to factor that in.
Off the top of my head, now that DL's CVG C concourse is closed, there's still the Continental Connection A-B shuttle bus at IAH, the US Airways Express F-A/B/C shuttle bus in Philadelphia, DL's new Terminals 2/3 to 4 shuttle bus at JFK, UA at IAD, and American Eagle's buses from various terminals to the remote American Eagle terminal at LAX. Some of the buses are more frequent and convenient than the others, especially when the concourses are fairly close (like the CVG was).

Connecting in an airport like ATL, CLE, DTW or UA at ORD, with different concourses connected by a moving walkway or train, is almost never as much of a pain as having to wait for a bus while your watch seems to be running in double time. Sometimes, a same-concourse connection is even more of a walk than changing concourses.
