I have also had success with this. I prepaid the room using my credit card and gave them my Hilton Honors number. At all times I specified that I would not be staying in the room and the room was booked in the name of the guest who was staying. I got the points, miles, and stay credit and the occupant reimbursed me. The hotel will let the occupant provide his or her credit card for incidental and addditional charges, so you can limit your liability to the room charges.
