What I suspect they did is simply change my Y fare to the full J fare -- and hence the extra $2900. I know that if I take a K fare TLV-FLL-TLV I can stop in Europe for a few days at no extra charge. In fact, I have done it in both directions -- stopping in Paris on the outbound flight and Milan when returning.
