The fare should be the same though it may be offering you a poor exchange rate. The residency drop-down is just so it knows which sets of regulations to follow -- European fares have to include all taxes up-front. I routinely use United Kingdom or some Euro-zone country to price comparison and then purchase with my Canadian credit card anyways.

You should double check that your credit card isn't going to ding you with a similarly bad exchange rate and/or commission/fee for the exchange. Also you should realize that if you take advantage of the 24-hour refund policy (or if you refund a refundable ticket) you'll lose out on the currency exchange both ways and that'll cost you quite a bit.
