Correct. BA flew that route for several years; not sure about the end date, but think it was ~ 2002/2003. The PHX stop was necessary as SAN has only one runway with 7600 fully usable feet, and cannot handle a jumbo loaded with pax and cargo.

IIRC, the 744 landed 4-ish in the afternoon. When I was near the airport, it was always a thrill to watch that plane lumber on down.
