I have been playing the game wrong (the error in crediting WorldPerks)
Have to book a hotel for non-business reasons tomorrow evening, which got me looking at the possibility of using points instead of cash.
Apparently hotels are running quite inexpensive these days, as I'm looking at a good Marriott brand where a room is 7,500 points. I have been crediting Worldperks instead of Marriott Rewards for my Marriott stays - and realize this was a huge error.
Instead of having 7,500 points in my Marriott Rewards account, I instead have 1,500 miles in my WorldPerks account. That 1,500 miles might get me $15 worth of travel - although probably not the exact flights I'd like.
Conversely, that 7,500 of Marriott Rewards points would nab me a $71 room.
On the Hilton side of the equation, it's a bit more complicated, but 30,000 points buys me a $119 room. But instead of those 30,000 points, I have 6,000 miles - worth half as much!
Guess who just switched all their hotel earnings to all hotel points?
