I remember this happening to my Dad once. They'd been stuck on the ground at LGA due to storms with an engine running. When it was time to takeoff the pilot said they could either divert to MEM for fuel or go back to the gate at LGA and rejoin the end of a long takeoff line. He elected to go with the MEM option.
