If that person claims to have "renounced" the foreign citizenship, could the government simply challenge him to specify the time and manner of so doing, and try him for perjury?
They possibly could, depending on the circumstances of acquisition of the citizenship, but they probably wouldn't until and unless the person attempted to exercise the rights of their alternate citizenship in some way.
