I think it would help. It should be optional, for the reasons already posted. If one were to make in mandatory, it would have to have "no specific country" (i.e., this thread) and "multiple countries" as choices, as well as perhaps common combinations of countries such as "Iberian peninsula" or "Mediterranean area." IMHO, that would quickly become unworkable.
