I had a room on the Diamond Floor once and didn't notice anything at all special about it. As you say, the Exec Lounge is generally a madhouse and I find it unpleasant to use. I've also never gotten any meaningful upgrades here.

I personally prefer the Doubletree Metropolitan, which is a few blocks away. I've stayed there about 6 times this year and always feel appreciated - I've gotten several upgrades, and last time I got a box of chocolates as well. The breakfast is nothing to write home about, but there are frequently inexpensive double points rates which helps make up for that.
