They’re two separate entities: Hilton Hotels Corporation (U.S.) and Hilton International (ROTW). Hilton International is a wholly owned subsidiary of Hilton Group Plc. Since 1997 there has been an agreement in place for cooperation in sales and marketing, loyalty programs, central reservation systems, and other operational matters. Otherwise, they operate independently. So in addition to the usual differences among brands and franchisees, you also have differences between the parent corporations. It’s not just an issue in the U.S. -- I’ve seen Scandics that make Holiday Inn look like Conrad.
