Not to hijak the thread, but as a photographer, one of things we worry about are monopods, which are more compact than tripods and very useful, but in essence are 6ft long metal sticks. I've always checked mine when travelling, but I was surprised to see them on sale at Dixon's T5B. If you can't get hem past security because they're weapons, it's probably not a good idea to sell them airside.
I agree -the same has always struck me with the liquids over 100ml ban. Surely a determined terrorist could find a way 'round this? Like five of them going, each taking 100ml to make 500ml and then simply purchasing a bottle of water from Boots and emptying it...
I do wonder if sometimes they ban things just for reassurance. Maybe it does deter terrorists -who knows?
