Rather than reading through all of the posts - just a few questions for clarificaton. As I understand it there is not a C Class fare originiating in Canada (space permitting). Therefore, are you able to fly ex JFK and return to your home city YYZ??
Yes. But if flying on the Y fare, AE only gives 50% mileage on the Canadian fare, 100% on the US one.

It is possible.

Yes. Sheraton FRA is the gathering hotel and will be bookable at a special Euro99 rate though not confirmed if this will earn SPG points. At the moment I have a Cash+Points booking at 4K+$60 a night but may change to the special rate. Also includes breakfast at the hotel.

Payment for LH flights is required at the time of booking, though these are done in batches and after a few days you will receive an email advising you to check to confirm flight details are correct. Once this is confirmed the flights will be ticketed and cc charged so it is not an instant, real time booking process.
For the Charter, it is supposed to be through a TA site and will be a real time process, so your card will be charged at that time. Hotel is not likely to be prepaid though.

This has still not been confirmed for the Charter (15K SMs) though we hope to know later next week, but for the LH TATL flights it will be to any STAR FF program you select.

No. The Charter still has not opened for booking due to some problems getting it into the Amadeus system. There is a limit of about 300 on the Charter, which will be two narrow-bodied Airbuses. Depending upon final numbers, these will be the largest A321, or a slightly smaller A320 or a mini A319. I assume the C sections are flexible in size based on bookings. IIRC there are about 80 seats now sold on the TATL. All this is first-come/first-served, but you do need to email the organizers to request a spot on the waiting list. Otherwise you cannot get an access PIN for the dedicated website.
