To answer most of the questions: I think he was just ticked that they canceled his flight, didn't say anything about it, and he was angling for an upgrade and wanted to know if that was reasonable given the situation.
Yes, he has had many flights change times but only by a few minutes. DL SMS can clean those up easily. This was the first that was completely canceled with out a real reason why it was canceled.
And for the record, if 2 weeks notice is SOP for informing customers about a canceled flight, that is pretty poor customer service.
Checking in from time to time is the best way to prevent a surprise from ruining a trip.
