Hilton Arlington (TX) Review

Just got back from a short local stay at the Hilton Arlington (Texas).

Overall, it is an average hotel that offers basic accommodations, though there were a few rough edges. I had reserved a room on the concierge level, and confirmed with Hilton that since the concierge lounge is closed, complimentary breakfast should be provided at the hotel restaurant.

Check-in was fairly quick, though the staff did not recognize my gold status and were hesitant about providing breakfast vouchers. This wasn't a promising start, given what we were about to find in the room. I wished I could chalk it up to inexperience, but the person who checked me in looked to be the senior staff on duty.

Our original room, 1621, was a little musty and the A/C did not seem to work very well. My traveling companion didn't think the chunk missing in the bathroom door or the missing part of the ceiling was really appealing, but we chalked it up to this being an older hotel. The furniture - bed/couch/TV/desk - was all in very reasonable shape. We called the front desk about the A/C, and they said to give it some time. We had some business to attend to, so we left the room for about 6 hours. Upon our return, it was still hot and humid.

We called the front desk again, and spoke to a different person who told us that maintenance would be up in 10 minutes. Eight minutes later, we had a very helpful maintenance person arrive, and he effectively told us that there's been ongoing issues with the A/C in this wing (primarily the room we were assigned), and didn't know why they still had this room open in the inventory.

A quick call to the front desk got us a new room, 1604, and a very sincere apology from him. He offered us dinner/drink vouchers, but we declined, since we just wanted a room where the A/C worked, and we were just grateful he was able to help us. After all, it's not his fault!

The restaurant, Conrad's, is comfortable and well appointed. The breakfast buffet was small, with the typical meat, eggs, potatoes, cereal, fruit, and yogurt spread. There weren't many servers present, and those that were there seemed to be rushing along. The food is average as is the service - nothing to write home about.

Overall thoughts:
The public areas are nice, and while the rooms seem a little worn in spots, the rooms are comfortable and the decor is reasonable. There is an indoor/outdoor pool that is nice, as well as a small spa/hot tub and separate men's/women's sauna facility. If you're cashing in points, this is not really worth a Reward Level 4 award unless it's on a Point Stretcher. High Speed Access is by Wayport, not complimentary. Housekeeping/Service is hit and miss - one robe in the closet, no bottled water or coffee by the coffee maker (others on the floor noted this as well - and this was the same in both rooms we were assigned). Stay away from the high numbered rooms if you need functional A/C or do not like musty smells.

Would I recommend? I would only if you need to stay in Arlington and you pay less than $80/night. There are other options in the Metroplex that are nicer for a more reasonable price. The Homewood Suites in Arlington is an alternate suggestion for the Hilton brand.
