Is it that risky? How about after checking in, and either receiving the buy up or not, then having the elite One Pass number added back in to the reservation. If no buy up was offered, fine no worries, only out of the EUA que for a few minutes and it's not going to run while the number isn't in the reservation. If the buy up is offered, pay for it immediately. Add the Elite one pass number back in. If CO tries to charge, call them on their tomfoolery and dispute the charge. Seems like this strategy although painful and annoying would limit some of the abuses that CO's current system seems to be creating.
