a $800+ Transcon on a most competitive route?

This route often can be had in $200 neighborhood.

Dont know what fare class you must pay on CO (may be for the EQM purpose), but unless this is fully refundable ticket, this is way too expensive.

What you are missing is, using AA miles, you can easily find saver award availability between LAX and JFK / LGA. OK, not to EWR, but it is only 25K AA miles.

Better yet, AA now is on a One-Way award system. So you can tailor it to suit your needs.
