Perth itself is a lovely city, very friendly and laid back. It is also very remote however! You will find that alot of the time things tend to shut pretty early and it can be a little quiet, depends what you are in to.

There are some amazing trips to do whilst you are there, heading up North is fun but I would suggest flying to Broome or similar if you have time for a side beach trip. The Beaches in Perth are beautiful though.

If you have a few days for a road trip then I would suggest heading down to Margaret River is definitely worthwhile, it is a beautiful area maybe 3-4 hours south of Perth, it has stunning beaches (be careful on some of them as the water is very powerful but there are some fabulous beaches) and amazing wines. Margaret River itself (the town) is fairly small but has some good places to stay and a couple of decent restaurants.

We went down to Denmark on the south coast last year and it was lovely, again nice vineyards and beaches. Elephant Rocks and Greenpools are worth going to. I guess you would want to do this with someone so really depends if you are on your own.

In Perth in the evenings there are a few gay bars, The Court Hotel has been renovated within the last couple of years and is a good spot to go to for drinks and to meet people. They have a great outdoor area and often have live music. Connections is the local nightclub, short walk from The Court hotel, it can get pretty busy and is a good laugh. Do not go there expecting it to be stylish and sophisticated though, that is not what Perth is about!!!

Hope this helps
